Don helps a wide range of clients confidently navigate complex business and estate planning issues. Don closely collaborates with other attorneys, financial planners, accountants, and insurance professionals in order to achieve the specialized planning goals of each and every client.
Don has extensive experience in advising closely held and small businesses in all phases of estate planning, probate and trust administration, and estate and gift tax issues. A particular focus of Don’s practice is devoted to helping families which have children or other family members with disabilities and special needs.
In the Profession
As a long-time member of the American Academy of Special Needs Planners and as the father of an autistic son himself, Don is keenly aware of the legal issues which every special needs family must address in order to provide a secure future for their loved ones. Working as a team with social workers, benefit consultants, care managers and other advocates, Don can give the special needs family the peace of mind of knowing that they have put in place the legal foundation and support network needed to ensure that their vulnerable loved ones can lead a happy and productive life.
In the Community
Don is very active in the special needs community. He regularly speaks to parent groups regarding their child’s transition from high school to community-based services and support. Don is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Cove School in Northbrook and supports its mission to serve children with complex learning disabilities from kindergarten through high school. Don also supports various local and national animal welfare and rescue shelter organizations.

Is there a charitable cause you feel passionate about? If yes, what is the charity and why?
I support Orphans of the Storm, a no-kill animal shelter in Deerfield, IL.
What is the best book you have read in the past two years?
‘Leonardo DaVinci’ by Walter Isaacson. A great biography of a fascinating person.
Which vacation spot would you recommend?
We had a great time staying at Walt Disney World when our children were little.
